American Association for Cancer Research
ATLANTA The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) will host the sixth conference on The Science of Cancer Health Disparities in Racial/Ethnic Minorities and the Medically Underserved on Dec. 6-9 at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel, in Atlanta, Ga.
Now in its sixth year, this conference is in collaboration with the AACR Minorities in Cancer Research Council. Its aim is to advance the understanding and, ultimately, to help eliminate the disparities in cancer that represent a major public health problem in our country. By promoting the exchange of novel ideas and information among a wide range of professions from academia, industry, government, and the community, this conference harnesses the potential and maximizes the opportunities for bringing research on health disparities from bench to bedside or community, and back again.
The online program can be found at http://www.aacr.org/home/scientists/meetings--workshops/cancer-health-disparities/program.aspx.
A press kit containing releases and highlighted abstracts will be available Dec. 2. Research that highlighted in the conference includes:
- Economic factors affecting recommended breast cancer treatment;
- Diabetes as a risk factor for liver cancer across ethnic groups;
- Biomarkers linked to aggressive breast cancers and poor outcomes among African-American women;
- Potential biological factor contributing to racial disparities in prostate cancer;
- Lack of knowledge about effectiveness of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine among eligible and high-risk respondents; and
- Genetic alterations associated with head and neck cancer survival disparities.
###
Registration will be available to members of the media who provide credentials. For more information or to register for the meeting, please contact Lauren Riley at lauren.riley@aacr.org or 215-446-7155 or Jeremy Moore at jeremy.moore@aacr.org or 215-446-7109.
