Showrunner Shakeup at Jimmy Fallon's 'Tonight Show'

Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show -- which is set to bow in February -- is making a producer change before it even premieres. Josh Lieb has been named producer of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon as well as Fallon's current Late Night. He'll work under executive producer Lorne Michaels.

Lieb was a writer and executive producer on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart until he left in early 2011 to move to Los Angeles and return to his roots in scripted comedy via a deal at Warner Bros. (He had previously worked as a producer on NewsRadio, The Simpsons and the Fox sitcom I Hate My Teenage Daughter.) He sold two multicamera comedy projects -- one to Fox and one to NBC -- but neither received a series order during the 2011 development season.

Lieb replaces Amy Ozols, who was announced as the showrunner for Fallon's Tonight Show back in June. Ozols has had a close relationship with Fallon and had been a writer on Late Night since the show's inception in 2009. But she lacked day-to-day showrunning experience. And when Lieb became amenable to relocating back to New York City from Los Angeles, Ozols decided to step aside rather than remain and work under him.

Lieb has a shelf full of Emmys for his work on The Daily Show. He also recently wrote and directed four comedic shorts for Matt Damon's clean water charity, Water.org.
